Vela Marrow
dream pop, shoegaze · Portland, OR · since 2019
Vela Marrow build cathedrals out of tape hiss. Formed in a Portland basement in 2019 around the duo of Iris Vane (voice, guitar) and Theo Marrow (synths, production), the band layers submerged vocals over slow-blooming walls of reverb — songs that feel like streetlights seen through rain.
Their debut EP Glass Tides drew comparisons to Slowdive and Grouper; 2024's Half-Light Cathedral is their fullest statement yet, recorded over a wet winter and mixed entirely at night.
Sound palette
Tape-saturated guitars, submerged vocals, slow tremolo, long echo tails — streetlights through rain.

Provenance
Vela Marrow's music is composed and performed with AI instruments from written briefs: chord maps, tempo, and mood boards set by Arc Echo's human producers. Generated takes are auditioned, edited, layered, and mixed by hand; most takes are discarded. The duo of Iris Vane and Theo Marrow is fictional. A named human editor signs off on every release.
